Lake Chatuge
Constructed in 1942 by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), Lake Chatuge is a man-made reservoir with 132 miles of shoreline and unrivaled beauty set to the backdrop of the Appalachian Mountains. Residents and visitors flock to Towns County during peak season for boating, swimming, skiing, fishing, and camping options this beautiful lake hosts.
Located on Highway 76, The Towns County Recreational Beach offers free parking and beach access. The area features a large playground, a white sand beach with a roped-off swimming area, a covered pavilion, picnic tables, and chair rentals. There is no lifeguard on duty so swimmers may do so at their own risk.
Towns County Beach is located approximately 2 miles from the town square of Hiawassee.
